--- Tea bags vs. Loose Leaf Teas ---
All teas, whether loose or in tea bags, contain antioxidants in varying levels. The quality of tea used in tea bags is generally poor and may consist of broken bits of leaves or tea fanning (also referred to as dusts) that gives a strong quicker brew, but lack the subtlety and fine quality of larger loose leaf teas. Tea bags often contain mixtures of teas (typically black teas), rather than a pure blend of teas that can be consistent in enjoyment every time. Bag tea can also release too much tannin too quickly, giving a harsher flavor to the tea.
Due to its process, bag teas have a short shelf life and may go stale before they reach the grocery store shelves.
Therefore, higher quality, fresh tea coming from younger, more nutrient-dense leaves on the tea plant will have higher levels of antioxidants and health promoting properties. Loose leaf tea offers you the ability to blend flavors, flowers, dried fruit, spices and leaves making every cup of tea an experience. Once you have experienced loose leaf tea, tea bags will be a part of your past.
